Faith: Hold On

“… If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matthew 17:20

I was trying to carefully place a mustard seed on a small poster with tweezers in one hand and glue in the other. As I started to place the glue on the seed, I dropped it. It was so small that I was unable to locate it. So, I used the tweezers to pick up another mustard seed and proceeded to drop it too. “I can’t seem to keep hold of it,” I said to myself aloud.

Sometimes it is hard to keep hold of our faith too. When we allow doubt and discouragement to drown out the truths of God’s Word, then our faith can be rendered useless. The words on the cards and posters say, “I have this much faith.” Without the mustard seed to symbolize just how much faith it takes to move a mountain; the cards and posters mean very little. It truly is not about our words, but God’s Word. Jesus expects us to live by faith and even encouraged the disciples by qualifying the amount needed, like the grain of mustard seed.

I encourage myself and others with the truth that God doesn’t require much faith from us, yet why is it we still deal with unbelief just as the disciples did. Faith comes by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) Opening the Bible and seeking His words always revives my faith even if it is just the size of a mustard seed. My eyes turn to Almighty God the Father who makes all things possible, for the Promiser is enough. I may not have been able to find that one tiny mustard seed, but I certainly have reclaimed and am clinging to my profession of faith in Christ Jesus today. I have that much faith!

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised:)” Hebrews 10:23

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive me for growing discouraged and disappointed. I choose not to lose my focus. I choose to keep my eyes on You, my Lord and Savior. Thank You for continuously revealing Your faithfulness to me. When my faith wavers, forgive me. I choose to cling and trust in You entirely for all things. In Your name I pray - Amen
